Luftbilder Ostseefjord Schlei, Maasholm, Port Olpenitz, Schleimünde | Im Jahr 2008 wurde die Halbinsel von der Lighthouse Foundation ersteigert, die sich für den Erhalt und die Entwicklung des Areals einsetzt. Die Lighthouse Foundation setzt sich seit 2004 für den Schutz der marinen Umwelt und eine nachhaltige Entwicklung im Verhältnis von Mensch und Meer ein. Sie fördert weltweit regionale Projekte, die ein ganzheitliches und langfristiges Denken und Handeln im Umgang mit den Ozeanen unterstützen, unter anderem durch Zusammenarbeit mit Gemeinden in der autonomen Region Guna Yala in Panama. Die Stiftung konzentriert sich auf die Bewältigung der globalen ökologischen Krise mit einem Fokus auf Meeresökosysteme.
